Drying Out

The next morning, Robyne's finger was still attached and only slightly swollen, so we started our six-mile hike to Elk Lake. At camp, the rain reappeared, so we snuggled into our tents for a nice afternoon nap.

We used the evening's campfire to try to remove some of the wetness from our socks and boots. We perched the boots around the fire ring and placed bets on which boot would accidentally catch fire first.

Robyne strung a rope over the fire and we hung our socks. After a while, the socks started turning a yellow smoky color, but at least they were drying. Only one sock got knocked into the fire, but came away only singed. Maybe the dampness kept it from catching. Even now that I'm home and have washed my socks a couple of times, they still reek of smoke.
